Pick Up
Pick up is at our bee farm just North of Perham MN.Our address is 49509 County Highway 53 Perham, MN 56573Pickup times can be morning or evening, keep in mind there is not usually anyone here in the mornings our workers start early. You will most likely have to pick your own hives and load them yourself since Jen is highly allergic to bees. If you need assistance with this you will need to make arrangements ahead of time with us to ensure there will be someone on sight to help you with this process.
How the nucs are made
We start making nucs up around March 10th and go until approx. April 5. The frames of brood to make u the colony, comes from strong, healthy colonies with low mite and nosema loads. All nucs are made up with 2 big frames of brood and bees placed into a brand new Jester EZ nuc box. Each box has a new 1 gallon feeder and 2 brand new frames of foundation. Queen cells are planted 24 hours after the nucs are filled. They are fed a gallon of medicated syrup at the time the cell is planted. The nucs are left alone for 21 days. At this time, we check each colony and look up each queen. We also visually check the eggs, larva, sealed brood and quickly evaluate her brood pattern. They are fed another 10-12 pounds of feed at this time and dusted with TM. 3-4 days later, we pick them up from the outyards and bring back to our bee ranch for customers to come pick up.We will have 1500 nucs available starting in May roughly around the 10th to the 15th depending on getting the trucks N. from
TX (or until we run out). We will make up a few hundred extra nucs beyond our booking goal in case people want more, or call at the last minute.
How They Start Out
The Jester EZ nuc is an excellent box. It is easy to use, has superior ventilation and handholds, as well as a door that is easy to open and close. It will last you for years. It is very handy for knocking your big colonies back and making your own replacement nucs. Also great for catching swarms.
What They Turn Into
The nucs consist of a feeder and 4 frames. Should average 3 frames of brood and bees on all 4 frames and in the feeders somewhat. They will need to be transferred into a full sized deep brood nest within a week of pickup. As stated earlier, they are started in all brand new equip. except the 2 original frames of brood.
